Leaving well
A resignation letter that states the last day and nothing extra
What goes wrong in a resignation letter that editorializes, and how Jobtiv turns notice, last day, and remaining work into a short letter.
The letter is a date, not a speech
People write resignation letters as if they were performance reviews: a catalog of slights, a paragraph about culture, a threat about gardening leave they have not checked. In a small town or a small sector that letter becomes the last document a future manager can ask about.
The other failure is missing the only facts the letter must carry — the resignation itself, the notice you are giving, and the last working day — because the template you found online was for a US at-will role and your contract is not.
Fields first: last day, notice, what you will finish
The tool asks for the facts a short letter needs: role, employer, last working day, and anything you will complete before you go. It drafts from those fields. You edit. You send it through whatever your contract says — email, HR portal, a printed copy — the product does not submit it.
It will not calculate your notice for you. If the contract says a term's notice, that number is yours to enter. If you are in a dispute, this is the wrong tool.
What Tomasz Ellery-Kovacs is dating
This is a fictional example CV, written to show the template. It is not a real person.
Tomasz Ellery-Kovacs is a fictional history teacher in Sheffield. A resignation letter from Ellery Community Academy needs a last day that respects the term, not a paragraph about league tables. The Year 8 empire unit he wrote for 3 colleagues is a handover note, not a grievance.
The letter can say thank you. It should not relitigate the 18 periods a week of the early-career years. Those belong in a reference request, if at all.
When this letter will not help
This is not legal advice, a settlement, or a constructive-dismissal record. If you need a union rep or a solicitor, stop here. The tool also will not serve notice for you or delete your account at the employer.
Questions
- Does Jobtiv know my contractual notice?
- No. You enter the last working day. Read the contract. If you are unsure, ask HR or a union rep before you send anything.
- Should I list everything I disliked?
- The letter is a date and a resignation. Grievances have their own process. Mixing them is how a short document becomes a long problem.
- Can I use this if I am a contractor?
- Only as a draft. Contractor notice lives in the contract you signed. This tool does not read that contract.
