Getting a finished resume into the profile without retyping it

What goes wrong when you retype a three-page resume by hand, and how Jobtiv import maps a PDF or Word file onto the same profile Studio later exports.

Retyping is how dates die

People arriving with a finished file do not need a blank form. They need the contents of that file in a structure the rest of the product can use. The failure mode of doing it by hand is not effort. It is drift: a start month that becomes a year, a bullet that loses its number because you were tired, an education date that swaps with the job below it.

The other failure is refusing to start because the form looks like a second resume. So the old PDF stays the source of truth, Studio stays empty, and every later tool writes as if you had no history.

Parse the file into the same schema the form uses

You upload a PDF or Word resume. Import tries to map names, roles, dates, bullets, education, and skills onto the profile schema — the same records intake would have created field by field. After the parse you proof it. Wrong dates get fixed here, once, before Studio, the cover letter, and the STAR builder all read the same rows.

Import is a handoff, not a rewrite. It does not "improve" the prose while it copies. If the file said "duties included backlog management", the profile will say that until you change it in Studio or intake.

What Elowen Marstow is importing

This is a fictional example CV, written to show the template. It is not a real person.

Elowen Marstow, Graduate, Norwich. Fictional. Used here as Elowen.

Elowen Marstow is a fictional graduate in Norwich. There is no paid job list. The file worth importing is the course CV: a geography BA, a QGIS dissertation (47 stops on 6 routes), treasurer of a student society with a £1,840 budget, and Saturday shifts packing parcels.

Import's job is to land those rows in education, projects, and volunteer — not to invent a graduate scheme she has not started. If the PDF was a campus template with a sidebar of icons, some of that sidebar will parse as junk. That is expected. The proof step is the product.

When import will not help

A photographed page, a heavy two-column infographic, or a file whose text is actually an image will mis-read. Import will not recover a sentence that is not text. You still walk every date. If the upload is empty of work, education, and projects, you wanted intake, not import.

Questions

Which files can I upload?
A PDF or Word resume with real text. Scanned photos of a page and purely visual files are a poor fit.
Will import rewrite my bullets?
No. It copies what it can read into the profile. Rewrites happen later, in Studio, against a job you paste.
What if the parse is wrong?
You edit the profile after import. The later tools read the corrected rows, not the original PDF.
