The raw record
Building the profile before there is a layout
What goes wrong when you start on a designed canvas with nothing behind it, and how Jobtiv intake collects roles, dates, and bullets as structured records.
A blank canvas is a strange place to remember your jobs
Studio is a layout tool. If you open it with an empty profile, you will try to write your career inside a template, which is like filling in a tax return on letterhead. Dates go in the wrong format. A role you meant to add later never arrives. Skills become a tag cloud you typed to make the sidebar look less sad.
The people this hurts most are not graduates. They are people with three employers, split contracts, and a month they left off because the form asked for years. Once those facts are wrong on the canvas, every export and every cover letter repeats the error.
A stepped form that writes the records Studio later dresses
Intake is a sequence of sections — basics, work, education, skills, and the extras — with month-year dates and repeatable bullets. You are not placing type on a page. You are creating the rows the rest of Jobtiv reads: the same work entries the cover letter, the STAR builder, and the path map will use.
There is optional line-by-line polish on a bullet you already wrote. It will not invent a shift pattern you did not type. When the form is done, Studio has something to dress, and import was never required because there was no prior file.
What Yasmin Hartmere is typing
This is a fictional example CV, written to show the template. It is not a real person.
Yasmin Hartmere is a fictional senior care worker in Plymouth. The facts that have to land as records, not as decoration, are a day shift for 12 residents, medicines for 9, punctuality at 96% across 18 months, and 4 new starters trained through 10 shadowed shifts.
Intake is where those numbers are entered as bullets under Pellthorne Lodge, with a start date of February 2023, before anyone picks a template. If she skipped this and typed into Studio, the medicines line would be the first thing a later rewrite lost.
When intake will not help
If you already have a good file, import is faster. Intake will not turn empty boxes into evidence. It will not export a PDF — that is Studio. And it will not decide which of two versions to send; it only builds the record.
Questions
- Is intake the same as Resume Studio?
- No. Intake writes the structured profile. Studio lays that profile out, scores it against a job, and exports a PDF.
- Can I skip intake if I upload a file?
- Yes. Import fills the same profile. Use intake when there is no file, or when the file is so poorly structured that typing is safer.
- Does intake generate a designed resume as I type?
- No. Layout happens later in Studio. That split is the point: facts first, dress second.
