Resume templates that keep one reading order

What goes wrong with decorative two-column resume templates, and how Jobtiv's public layouts stay on a single reading order in Studio.

Decoration is not a parse

A template with a colored sidebar, icons for "teamwork", and skills as pills down the right edge can look like a designed object. Many applicant-tracking systems do not see a designed object. They see a left column of dates, then a right column of words, concatenated in an order no human wrote.

The people who get hurt are often first-job applicants, because campus career PDFs still ship two-column files, and because there is no paid work to fall back on when the parse eats the dissertation line.

Public layouts, same profile, Studio export

The /templates gallery is the public set of Studio layouts. Each one is a way to dress the same profile: single reading order, no skill cloud pretending to be a sentence. You preview them here with a fictional example CV, then you actually export from Studio on your own profile.

Picking a template does not change your bullets. It changes the chrome around them. If two templates look similar, that is because they are solving the same parse problem, not because they are doorway pages for "nurse template" and "graduate template". Profession-specific template pages are a later cluster, not this one.

What Elowen Marstow looks like on Archive

This is a fictional example CV, written to show the template. It is not a real person.

Elowen Marstow, Graduate, Norwich. Fictional. Used here as Elowen.

Elowen Marstow is a fictional graduate. On a public template such as Archive, the education block (BA Geography, 2:1, QGIS dissertation) sits above volunteer and projects because her profile's section order puts them there. The layout did not invent a job.

If she picked a two-column campus file instead, the 47-stop bus map could parse as a skill chip. That is the failure this gallery is built to avoid.

When a template will not help

A layout cannot make an empty profile look experienced. "ATS-safe" here means a single reading order in our public set — it is not a certificate from any particular employer's software. We do not test every vendor. If a recruiter asks for their own form, use their form.

Questions

Are these profession-specific templates?
No. They are layouts. The same template can dress a nurse or a graduate because the content comes from the profile, not from the template name.
Do I export from this gallery?
No. The gallery is a preview. Export happens in Resume Studio, from your account.
Will a template raise my score against a job?
Only if the previous layout was hiding evidence the parser could not read. It will not add skills you did not write.
